Saving lives is the center’s overriding focus, but trauma care doesn’t end when a patient survives an injury-it extends from initial treatment through rehabilitation. The center’s trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, nurses, intensive care units, medical imaging, laboratory, and respiratory care are available around the clock. Our Trauma Center team is specially trained to treat patients using well-defined trauma policies and procedures. This includes a one-year COVID-19 extension granted to all verified trauma centers. Our verification as a Level II adult trauma center has been extended through November 7, 2023. This achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients and a consistently high level of performance and quality. The Walnut Creek Medical Center has been re-verified by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma as a Level II trauma center. Level II Trauma Center Re-Verification Validates High Level of Performance and Quality Our South Sacramento Medical Center is the south areas only designated Level II Trauma Center, providing an advanced level of trauma care for those with. Only a select group of medical centers receive Level II Trauma Center verification from the ACS and these centers must meet essential criteria to ensure trauma care capability and consistently demonstrate a high level of performance and quality institutional performance. County guidelines dictate which patients are taken to the center, which has continued to be recertified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Level II Trauma Center since 1986. Critically injured patients are brought by helicopter or ambulance directly from the injury site to our Trauma Center. Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) is the designated and verified Level II Trauma center serving West Ventura county.
